With the first of the harvest come your onions. They should all be quite large by now and ready to be pulled from the garden. You can either choose to hang them by their stalks and dry them or you can cut the stalks off and dry those as well.
We chose to dry the stalks. Once again this may look like quite the onion haul but once you chop up all the stalks into tiny slices and dry them....there is only enough for a small bag!
Pretty straight forward on drying onions.
So chop them all up. Separate the part that is closest to the head. Those dry quite hard and are really good for soups and stews. The greener parts are great for potatoes, meats, pastas, salads etc.
You can dehydrate them in your dehydrator for a few hours (I did 4 hrs at a temp of 135) or you can dry them in your oven on low heat for a few hours.
Store in a sealed container.
